Nanotechnology - Graphene

Nanotechnology- Polish graphene could revolutionize the yacht and aviation industry

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2010 was awarded jointly to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov "for groundbreaking experiments regarding the two-dimensional material graphene". But it is the Advanced Graphene Products (AGP) a Polish company founded in 2012, which produces and supply customers worldwide with high-quality graphene - HSMG ™ - High Strength Metallurgical Graphene ™. AGP together with the Technical University of Lódz will develop components that may revolutionize the production of yachts and aircraft (water desalination systems, energy storage, and composite materials).

The strength and rigidity of racing hulls and fittings have the highest priority. Therefore, AGP started very intensive work on the implementation of composites based on graphene – HSMG for the needs of yachting industry. The company is working on using graphene for the production of flexible and durable composites, which could be used in the production of sailboat masts, hull vessels, and also aircrafts.

AGP, along with a group of scientists from the Technical University of Lódz has also started research on photovoltaic system that allows for the production of solar energy and high-performance storage in batteries and capacitors. This system will be also based on a transparent and robust graphene HSMG

In the near future thanks to the unique physical characteristics of this material ( a thin membrane having holes with a diameter of approximately 1 nanometre are large enough to be permeable to water molecules but small enough to retain molecules salt) it will be able to solve the problem of drinking water. Filtering seawater will not require large amounts of energy currently required, and will become an easy and convenient process.
